The method involves determining imposed flux and torque generating current components depending on a detected revolution rate and a delivered torque, determining voltage components in and perpendicular to the flux direction depending on the imposed current component and on field and torque generating current components of a detected stator current vector, generating reduction values depending on deviations from voltage threshold values for limiting the delivered torque and a default current component, generating field and torque generating current components with reluctance depending on imposed current components and generating a stator voltage vector from the determined voltage components in and perpendicular to the flux direction.
