PURPOSE: A cap assembly and a square secondary battery having the same are provided to prevent the occurrence of short caused due to the contact between the electrode cap and the side wall of the square case. CONSTITUTION: A cap assembly(120) comprises a cap plate(150) having a rectangular shape and a through hole(151) formed through the center of the cap plate; a pin(130) having a cylindrical main body portion(131) to be inserted into the through hole of the cap plate, and a head portion(132) formed integrally with the cylindrical main body portion; a sealing unit for sealing the gap formed between the through hole of the cap plate and the main body portion of the pin; and a connecting unit(170) arranged at an end of the main body portion of the pin and welded to an electrode tab(181) of an electrode assembly(180). The connecting unit includes a connecting plate(173) extended downward for welding with the electrode tab.
