The transport appliance, e.g. bicycle, scooter, roller skates, etc., contains an actuatable brake (2,6). The mechanism has at least one automatically effected brake actuating force generator (8), energetically fed by appliance motion energy. The generator provides a brake actuating force, at least in a given speed range, rising with increasing speed of appliance. Pref. the brake is actuated by pressure application, using hydraulic or pneumatic medium from a pump acting as the generator.
