A combustion sample holder is especially a tubular length of quartz glass to determine the existence of elements and stable isotopes (carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen or hydrogen) present in solid samples. The insert is especially a tube of quartz glass whose outer diameter is slightly less than the inner diameter of the surrounding incineration tube in the analytical instrument. The tube has one closed end, a hole for a an insert/removal hook. The sample substance e.g. a filter with deposits is placed in the tube and incinerated at ca. 1000[deg]C in pure oxygen. The residues remain within the tube and are removed for analysis using prior art.
