The fuel injection valve has a piezoelectric or magnetostrictive actuator, a valve needle that interacts with a valve closure body that forms a sealing seat with a valve seat body and a restoring spring for biasing the needle towards its closure position. The valve needle is pressure balanced, whereby the force exerted in the opening direction by the fuel pressure is approximately equal to the force exerted by the fuel in the closing direction. The fuel injection valve has a piezoelectric or magnetostrictive actuator (3), a valve needle (10) that interacts with a valve closure body (17) that forms a sealing seat (25) with a valve seat body (18) and a restoring spring (20) with which the needle is biased towards its closure position. The valve needle is pressure balanced, whereby the force exerted in the opening direction by the fuel pressure is approximately equal to the force exerted by the fuel in the closing direction.
