The system has a physical layer, a cycle master for sending cycle start packets, an isochronous resource manager with bandwidth allocation, bus manager identification and channel allocation registers. The cycle manager receives an event-dependent cycle start trigger signal from a trigger source and synchronizes sending of cycle start packets with the cycle start trigger signal. The system has a physical layer corresponding to the IEEE 1394 standard for connecting the communications units (2) to a data line (1) and for regulating bus access according to the arbitration implemented in the physical layer, an IEEE 1394 cycle master for sending cycle start packets, an IEEE 1394 isochronous resource manager with a bandwidth allocation register, bus manager identification register and a channel allocation register in which the isochronous communications unit channels are allocated. The cycle manager receives an event-dependent cycle start trigger signal from a trigger source (3) and synchronizes sending of the cycle start packets with the cycle start trigger signal.
