PURPOSE: A VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) gateway and a fault processing method therefor are provided to enable an Internet phone gateway to independently detect a fault of the other Internet phone gateway to which a call is connected, so as to correspondingly process the call. CONSTITUTION: A trunk call processing unit(210) collects an incoming number, voice and data inputted through an analog or digital subscriber line. An Internet call processing unit(230) connects a call with a terminal of the incoming number through the Internet. A voice compression processing unit(220) compresses or processes data transceived through the trunk call processing unit(210) or the Internet call processing unit(230). A fault detection processing unit(250) monitors an operation state of the other gateway to which the call is connected, and announces a generated fault for a user. And a system controlling unit(240) receives information on whether or not a fault is generated from the fault detection processing unit(250) to disconnect the call.
