<p>A towing and towed vehicle braking system is provided comprised of the following components. A towing vehicle electronic brake controller (30) capable of transmitting a brake signal indicating application of towing vehicle brakes (24). A towed vehicle electronic brake controller (32) capable of receiving the brake signal from the towing vehicle electronic brake controller (30). Brake lines (35) leading to the towed vehicle brakes (40). A power unit (34) in operable communication with the towed vehicle brake controller (32) to pressurize the brake lines (35). A brake fluid reservoir (38) in operable communication with the power unit (34) and the brake lines (35). A proportional relief valve (36) in operable communication with the power unit (34), the towed vehicle brake controller (32), the brake lines (35), and the brake fluid reservoir (38), for controlling the pressure in the brake lines (35) and thereby controlling braking force applied by the towed vehicle brakes (40). Wherein the proportional relief valve (36) is sent a specific pressure setting by the towed vehicle brake controller (32) set in response to the brake signal from the towing vehicle electronic brake controller (30), thereby controlling the application of the towed vehicle brakes (40) in response to the towing vehicle brakes (24).</p> |
