A tensioner having a small diameter adaptable to a small-sized engine. In a tensioner (A1), a shaft member (3), which is one of a pair of shaft members (3), (4) screwed together by a screw portion, is urged for rotation by a tortion spring (5) and propelled from a case (2) with the rotation of the other shaft member (4) restricted by a bearing (6). The bearing (6) is formed by a guide portion (13) and a fixing portion (14). The guide portion (13) extends along its propelling direction to form a substantially tubular shape. The other shaft member penetrates through the guide portion (13) with the rotation the shaft member (4) restricted, so that the propelling of the shaft member (4) is guided by the guide portion (13). The fixing portion (14) is provided continuously at the base end side of the guide portion (13) and fixed in a rotation-restricted state to a tip portion of a case (2).
