PURPOSE: An AAL2-5 conversion device using a processor building an ATM SAR(Segmentation And Reassembly) therein is provided to implement a converter for converting an AAL2 into an AAL5 by using the processing building the SAR therein, thereby actively coping with a change of an ATM communication system and improving compatibility. CONSTITUTION: A memory(100) stores a driving program, an operation program, and a system program, and stores VP/VC reference data for analyzing types of AAL2 or AAL5 ATM cells, and performs a buffering function of the AAL2 or the AAL5 ATM cells. An ATM SAR building processor(200) is driven through the driving program of the memory(100). When AAL2-type ATM cells are inputted from many ATM physical layers(1) by performing each program of the memory(100), the ATM SAR building processor(200) converts the cells into AAL5-type ATM cells, and outputs the converted cells to an MUX/DEMUX(2). If AAL5-type ATM cells are inputted from the MUX/DEMUX(2), the ATM SAR building processor(200) converts the cells into AAL2-type ATM cells, and transmits the converted cells to the ATM physical layers(1), then performs MUX/DEMUX functions with the ATM physical layers(1).
