METHOD OF MEASURING RTT USING GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method of measuring an RTT(Round Trip Time) using a GPS(Global Positioning System) is provided to calculate the RTT by using the GPS when converting into a USTS(Uplink Synchronous Transmission Scheme) mode in a mobile station, thereby reducing signal burden between a base station and an RNC(Radio Network Controller). CONSTITUTION: An RNC receives GPS position information of a mobile communication terminal from the mobile communication terminal(301). The RNC calculates an RTT by using the received GPS position information and GPS position information of a base station(302). The RNC catches USTS initial synchronization by using the calculated RTT(303). When measuring the RTT using a GPS, the mobile communication terminal frequently supplies self GPS information to the RNC. If the mobile communication terminal attempts to convert into a USTS mode, the RNC calculates the RTT based on the GPS position information of the base station and GPS information of the mobile communication terminal, and uses the calculated RTT when catching the USTS initial synchronization.
