A takeout mechanism (140) is provided for gripping a bottle (10) formed at the blow station of an I.S. machine and removing it from the blow station. The takeout mechanism has a cooling tube (34) which is displaceable between up and down positions within the bottle to be cooled. The open bottom of the cooling tube (34) has an annular deflector (116) which deflects some of the downwardly propelled cooling air radially outwardly from the cooling tube. <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
