Laser machining head and process for laser welding

The laser head includes a system for directing a focussed laser beam into a melting zone, a powder delivery system with a channel in which powder granules are accelerated by an accelerating gas, and a protection gas delivery system with a hood (52) surrounding the exit opening of the powder delivery channel. The hood incorporates a flow homogenising element (68) which, with reference to the flow direction (69) of the protection gas, is located downstream from the gas entry opening (66) and upstream from the exit opening (28) of the powder delivery channel (26). Also claimed is a method for laser treatment, in particular laser welding.
