Process for improving the adhesion and distribution of a lubricant on the surface of an aluminum (alloy) cold rolled strip between two working rollers comprises coating the strip with a lubricant for subsequent deformation. The surface of the at least one of the working rollers has a roughness pattern (10) which consists of at least two cutting line patterns (14, 18) which are characterized by a number of parallel grooves (12, 16). Preferred Features: The roughness pattern consists of two cutting line patterns arranged at an angle of 30-60 degrees to the rolling direction. The distance between the grooves and the depth of the grooves is 0.2-2.5, preferably 0.4-1.8 microns .
