<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for protecting a hydrogen permeable membrane utilizing apparatus by adsorbing a part or all of residual gas at the time of start or completion of the use of the hydrogen permeable membrane utilizing apparatus using a hydrogen permeable membrane comprising a metal or an alloy developing hydrogen permeability, and a protective device embodying the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for protecting the hydrogen permeable membrane utilizing apparatus, the hydrogen permeable membrane comprising the metal or the alloy developing hydrogen permeability is used and a hydrogen occlusion body comprising a gas adsorption medium is arranged in a space communicating with the hydrogen permeable membrane and heated at the time of start of the use of the hydrogen permeable membrane or during the use thereof to discharge the adsorbed gas. At the time of completion of the use of the hydrogen permeable membrane, first, the space including the hydrogen permeable membrane and the hydrogen occlusion body is closed using a valve, or the like and the hydrogen occlusion body is used to adsorb a part or all of the residual gas to remove hydrogen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
