<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the remote fine-adjustment of the position of a side burner, capable of easily and accurately adjusting, even in operation, the position and/or the angle of the side burner used for the quenching of both the ends of a soot deposition when an optical fiber preform is manufactured by the outside vapor phase deposition method, and a device for manufacturing the optical fiber preform. <P>SOLUTION: When the optical fiber preform is manufactured by depositing soot on a target bar 2 with the external sedimentation method, the position of the side burner 6 is characteristically fine-adjusted by operating a position fine-adjustment instrument 7 installed outside a chamber 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
