<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor-driven power steering device capable of judging whether torque is inputted from the steering wheel side or steering mechanism side, and controlling the driving of a steering support motor based on the judgment result. <P>SOLUTION: In this motor-driven power steering device, the rotational angle of a steering shaft for connecting the steering wheel to the steering mechanism of a vehicle is detected at different positions in the lengthwise direction of the shaft, and the torque applied to the steering shaft is calculated based on the difference in the detected rotational angles to control the driving of the steering support motor corresponding to the direction and size of the calculated torque. This device comprises a means (S2a) of calculating the angular speed of the steering shaft at the respective detecting positions based on the rotational angles (S1), judging means (S11-13, 15) of judging whether the torque is inputted from the steering wheel side or from the steering mechanism based on a relation between the calculated angular speeds, thus controlling the driving of the motor (S14, 15a) based on the judgment results. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
