PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering gear capable of traveling while maintaining a proper physical relationship between a driver and a steering wheel position by adjustable setting of the steering wheel position in response to a traveling state. SOLUTION: The steering gear is provided with a traveling state detecting means of detecting the traveling state of a vehicle, a fore and aft direction moving mechanism provided in a transmission system transmitting steering action of a steering wheel and moving the steering wheel position in a fore and aft direction of the vehicle, and a fore and aft movement control means of controlling movement of the steering wheel position in the vehicular fore and aft direction in response to the traveling state of the vehicle detected by the traveling state detecting means.
