PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which generation of paper powder incident to traveling of a recording sheet is prevented while exhibiting high stability of intermittent ejection (rejection properties after ejection pause time) in a print head. SOLUTION: A recording sheet 2 to be printed is coated with water at a liquid coating section 3 so that powdery dust, e.g. paper powder, supported on the recording sheet 2 is not blown up in a container 5 containing a print head 1. The recording sheet 2 coated with water is thermally dried on a preheat plate before being printed by means of the print head 1 and water applied to the recording sheet vaporizes when the recording sheet is thermally dried and ascends to increase humidity in the vicinity of the print head 1. Consequently, paper powder generated from the recording sheet 2 is prevented from depositing in the vicinity of an ink ejection nozzle hole thus preventing reaction on an ink material or aggregation of coloring agent contained in the ink material.
