PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high reliability and cost reduction for a steering-by-wire device of a vehicle. SOLUTION: This steering-by-wire device A for the vehicle, which includes a joy stick 1 provided adjacent to a driver's seat, a steering controlled variable sensor 2 for detecting the controlled variable of the joy stick 1, a steering motor 5 for performing the steering of steered wheels W, W of the vehicle, a rack position sensor 10 for detecting the steering amount of the steered wheels W, W, and a control means 4 of controlling the steering motor 5 so that the steering amount of the steered wheels W, W may correspond to the controlled variable of the joy stick 1, is provided with a rack axial force sensor 20 for detecting the output of the steering motor 5. The control means 4 controls so that the output of the steering motor 5 may correspond to the controlled variable of the joy stick 1 if any failure in the rack position sensor 10 are judged.
