PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder and an ink jet recording method whereby an ink consumption is effectively restricted while reliable recording is carried out on the basis of recording data, and moreover biased use of a plurality of kinds of ink can be suppressed. SOLUTION: On the basis of remaining amounts of the plurality of kinds of ink C, M and Y in ink tanks and/or image data, an application order of the plurality of kinds of ink C, M and Y to a medium to be recorded, and recording image data used for discharging these inks C, M and Y are selected.
