PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an equipment for preventing smearing of a roller occurring right after coating by using a blade coater, and enable a stable manufacture of coated paper in a good coating condition. SOLUTION: The blade coater is equipped with a light-reflection type position sensor and an edge-showering device. The position sensor is placed upstream of a coater head and detects both edges of a web. The edge-showing device is provided with two pairs of shower nozzles on both ends of the web, and is interlocked with the position sensor. The edge-showering device ejects water or water-vapor to moisten the parts to be coated in the edges and ends of the web and restrict adhesion of excess coating liquid. Thus, smearing of the roll surface generating on both web edges are prevented from occurring. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
