PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric wheelchair easily getting over a step by preventing the wheelchair from vigorously traveling right after getting over the step. SOLUTION: This electric wheelchair is provided with a car body 1, wheels 4 provided in the car body 1, an operating body 7 for traveling the wheelchair by applying a force by an operator, an operating force detecting part detecting an operating force applied to the operating body 7, a drive part including a motor 31 rotatably driving the wheels 4, a control part 12 controlling the rotation of the motor 31 according to the operating force detected by the operating force detecting part, and a deceleration part R decelerating the rotation of the motor 31 and rotating the wheels 4 at low speed and a high torque. This wheelchair is so constituted as to be selectively switchable between an ordinary traveling state transmitting the output rotation of the drive part 3 to the wheels 4 without deceleration by the deceleration part R and a deceleration traveling state decelerating the output rotation of the drive part 3 via the deceleration part R and transmitting it to the wheels 4.
