New medicaments contain a higher alkanoic, alkenoic or alkynoic acid ester (I) as active agent. New medicaments contain an ester of formula R 1COOR 2 (I) as active agent. R 1optionally substituted 11-15C (preferably 11-13C) alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group (including polyunsaturated groups); R 21-8C (preferably 2-4C) alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group, -(CH 2(CH 2) mO) n-H, -(CH 2(CH(OH)) p-CH 2R 3 or pentose or hexose residue; R 3H or OH; n : 1-10 (preferably 1-5); m : 1-5 (preferably 1-3); and p : 1-7 (preferably 1-4). - ACTIVITY : Virucide; Dermatological; Cytostatic; Anti-HIV. In tests in patients with genital warts, application of an ointment comprising 35 wt. % isopropyl myristate (Ia), 25 wt. % white wax, 34.023 wt. % white petrolatum, 5 wt. % propylene glycol monostearate, 0.5 wt. % oleyl alcohol, 0.022 wt. % red iron oxide, 0.055 wt. % yellow iron oxide and 0.400 wt. % titanium dioxide 3 times daily for 12 weeks (or until cure was complete) gave complete cure in 42.1 % of male patients and 33.3 % of female patients and partial (at least 75 %) cure in 63.2 % of male patients and 52.4 % of female patients. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given. |
