PURPOSE: A sewing machine containing an automatic tension controller is characterized by controlling tension automatically and not twisting an elastic band supplied on an overlock work. The sewing machine is capable of increasing productivity and workability. CONSTITUTION: The sewing machine is comprised of: a tension control supplying part(10) which is installed on the top of a presser foot, inletting the elastic band(70) in the presser foot with a tension control bar(13); the tension control bar(13) driven by a step motor at proper velocity; the tension controller(30) containing a main roller(31) and securing length of the elastic band(70) in advance in accordance with turning power of the step motor; and a twist inhibiting tool(40) rotating in the opposite direction of the elastic band(70) and inhibiting twist of the elastic band(70).
