PURPOSE: A method for driving a flat display device and an apparatus for the same are provided to drive with mixing a positive and a negative levels and to prevent an unnecessary current path by making an output terminal with a high impedance state at a timing having no driving signals, thereby reducing the power consumption thereof. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a flat display device includes an input buffer(5) for inputting a driving signal, an output buffer(7) for outputting the driving signal, an insulation interfacing means for insulating the input buffer(5) and the output buffer(7), a shift register(8) for the scan ling and a reset driving by subsequently shifting the driving signal stored at the output buffer(7), a field emission transistor(FET) array(9) for implementing a sequential driving and reset of the scan line in response to the output of the shift register(8) and for maintaining the output terminal with a high impedance state at the timing having no signal and a driving output level selection means(10) for driving the corresponding line with a floating level during the selection of the line and for driving the corresponding line with a ground level during the non-selection of the line.
