PURPOSE: An external electrode discharge lamp is provided to increase the quantity of light emission and attain a long service life. CONSTITUTION: An external electrode discharge lamp(12) includes electrodes(70,80) formed at the outer peripheral parts of both axial ends of a tubular glass lamp container(20) filled with a discharge medium inside. The electrodes are formed by providing the inner peripheral surfaces of plastic foil-like metal conductors(31,41) with the layers of conductive pressure-sensitive adhesives(32,42). The layer of the conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive is formed by dispersing conductive particles in one or two or more selected out of silicon resin, fluororesin, polyimide resin and epoxy resin based pressure-sensitive, adhesives.
