PURPOSE: A media access control method of a home gateway device is provided to prevent data collision of each media by giving a priority in consideration of characteristics of each media and transferring data according to the priority. CONSTITUTION: A gateway device initializes terminal interface units of each media(S101). The gateway device recognizes of terminals of each media group constructed by a home network and broadcasts a priority inherently set for each terminal(S102). The gateway device receives media information from each terminal upon request(S103), and classifies media access priorities of terminals of each group(S104). The gateway device compares fairness so that every group can access a media at a proper rate(S105). If it is fair, the gateway device confirms media access priorities by groups and broadcast them to each terminal(S106). The priorities are updated after receiving media information after a certain period, and the updated priorities are transferred to each terminal(S107). Assigned the priorities, each terminal updates a media access priority(S201). When the gateway device requests transmission of media information, each terminal provides media state information as a basis for judging priority setup(S202). The gateway device updates a priority table by groups according to the determined priorities and refers the priority table for data transmission so that a data collision between terminals may not occur(S203). If there is a data to be transmitted(S204), each terminal transfers a data according to the media access priority of the group to which each terminal belongs, while there is no data transmission of a group with a higher priority(S205). The following process is performed in the same manner as the general Ethernet protocol(S206).
