<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose cover with an automatic document feeder (ADF) is opened/closed by a user with both hands full. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 1 is equipped with a flatbed scanner (FBS) 3 provided at the upper part of a device main body 2, the cover 4 having the ADF5 and also provided to freely open/close on the FBS3, a motor 25 for the opening/closing operation of the cover 4 with the ADF, a human body sensing sensor 17 detecting that a human body exists near the device 1, and a scanner cover control circuit 24 controlling the motor 25 so that the cover 4 may be opened when the sensor 17 detects the human body. When the sensor 17 detects the human body in a copying mode set as a standby state, the cover 4 is automatically opened and the reading surface of the FBS3 is exposed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
