PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method with which the durability of a latent image carrier can be improved, and an electrostatic latent image of high reliability suitable to recording with high resolution can be formed, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a latent image forming means for attaining the aforesaid purpose. SOLUTION: As for the method for forming the electrostatic latent image on the surface of the latent image carrier 1, the surface of the latent image carrier 1 is irradiated with a luminous flux 4 having a short wavelength, and a current flow path is formed between the latent image carrier 1 and an electrifying electrode 3 arranged facing the latent image carrier 1 in a position where at least a part of the luminous flux 4 is made incident by ionizing the air on the path of the luminous flux 4 by optical energies, a current is made to flow by applying a voltage between the electrifying electrode 3 and the latent image carrier 1, and then, the electrostatic latent image is formed on the latent image carrier 1.
