PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera which detects abnormal winding caused when a film leader is put in a spool too much in free winding driving for automatic loading an prevents halfway rewinding due to disengagement between the film and spool. SOLUTION: A film driving unit which has a feed motor 2 and a motor driving means 3 and automatically loads the film is equipped with a motor driving quantity detecting means 4 which counts output pulses corresponding to the driving quantity of the feed motor 2, a perforation detecting means 5 which detects perforations of the film, and a decision means 7 which counts motor driving quantity pulses by motor driving quantity detecting means 4 from the start of driving by the feed motor 2 until the detection of a 1st perforation by the perforation detecting means 5 in automatic film free winding and decides that the automatic loading of the film ends in failure if the number of motor driving pulses is outside a specified pulse range.
