A composition tube is made by winding a filament on a rotating mandrel (300) with radial projections (310) to form holes at the required locations in the tube. Between the core and the shell it has a lubricator (350) that keeps the two rotating together but allows them to be separated in an axial direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of manufacturing the tube comprising by fitting the shell to the mandrel, winding the filament onto it, impregnating the filament with resin and hardening the tube; and (b) a support element for a filter cartridge using the tube.
