PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone which allows a user to surely charge its battery, unaffected by the condition in use. SOLUTION: A processor 1 actuates a timer 2 when the processor detects start of charging a battery 3 immediately after the portable telephone is set to a charging adapter 20. When a count of the timer 2 reaches a predetermined threshold, the timer informs the processor 1 that the count has reached the threshold. Informed by the timer, the processor 1 reads the voltage of the battery 3 via a monitor circuit 4, and stops charging by judging that the battery 3 is out of order only when the voltage is abnormally low.
