PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil-immersed battery in which energy density per unit weight can be increased. SOLUTION: The oil-immersed battery comprises a battery housing bath 11 for housing a cluster battery pack consisting of a plurality of nonaqueous electrolyte cells 10A and being hermetically sealed with a lid 19, and a pressure equalizing bladder 12 for compensating differential pressure between the inside and outside by flowing in/out an electrical insulating oil 21 filled in the inside into/from the battery housing bath 11 corresponding to the variation of the outside pressure. The nonaqueous electrolyte cells 10A extend or contract according to the variation of the pressure, and have extension/contraction units 10A-2 for compensating differential pressure between the inside and outside of the battery case 10A-1. The extension/contraction units 10A-2 are made to abut on a portion of the battery case 10A-1 or the battery housing bath 11 when they are extended to the maximum length. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
