<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optimum removal efficiency even in the case the time required to remove residual toner varies from paper to paper in a color image forming device which is cleaner-less and the productivity of which differs between a black mode and a color mode. <P>SOLUTION: The color image forming device has a means for selecting an image formation mode, a means for detecting the image density of an image that is formed, a means for counting during a print job the number of sheets subjected to image formation, and a means for removing residual toner on an image carrier. According to the selected image formation mode, the time required to remove residual toner is determined by using the image density and the number of sheets subjected to the image formation.
