PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-weight and compact band-pass filter, capable of obtaining sharp wavelength distribution and a video display device capable of displaying a high quality video using it. SOLUTION: The band-pass filter, provided with a reflection optical element having a constant reflection angle selection area for the wavelength of a certain area, has an incident angle in which one-time reflection and one-time transmission are different from each other in the reflection optical element (D). The wavelength distribution of incident light (L0) can be changed into a narrow wavelength width light (L3), by performing transmission cutting the wavelength region of the long-wave side or the short-wave side to the wavelength distribution obtained by reflection.
