PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent wrong detection of a far-range target located out of the detection range of a radar apparatus which samples beat signals generated from time-division-multiplexed received signals and processes the signals to detect a target, without sacrificing its detection power. SOLUTION: In a range detection mode, the apparatus continuously samples beat signals, using only one channel among a plurality of channels, to increase the sampling frequency fs by Nc times (fs/Nc to fx) of that in an azimuth detection mode and to reduce the sweep time T to a minimum essential length. Accordingly, in the range detection mode, since a half the sample frequency fs is far higher than frequency components based on a far-range target enough to avoid folding back frequency components based on the far-range target into a signal band due to the FFT process, wrong detection of the far-range target can be prevented.
