METHOD FOR INITIAL CONDITIONING AND FOR INITIAL STAGE PERFORMANCE CHECK OF NATRIUM-SULFUR CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost and short time method for initial conditioning and for an initial stage performance check of a natrium-sulfur cell. SOLUTION: The initial conditioning is carried out by raising the temperature of the cell in a heating furnace and discharging after the fabrication of the natrium-sulfur cell comprising a positive pole container 19, a solid electrolyte tube 10 provided inside the positive pole container 19, a negative pole active material comprising a metalic sodium contained in the solid electrolyte tube 10, a positive pole conductive material 21 impregnated the positive pole active material comprising sulfur contained between the solid electrolyte tube 10 and the positive pole container 19, and a high resistance layer formed between the positive pole conductive material 21 and the solid electrolyte tube 10. The battery is initialized by resistance discharge without carrying out complete charging and discharge by discharging the cell until the initial peak resistance of the cell is obtained.
