PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing operations except specific operations, namely, abnormal output and generation of unexpected emitted noise, and a method and a program for controlling the image reader, and a storage medium. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a driving pulse/control pulse generation means 205 for controlling driving pulses of an optic/electric transducer 214, oscillators 206, 207 that oscillate to the driving pulses with a plurality of different frequencies, an oscillation frequency switching means 208 for selectively switching the oscillators 206, 207 and the driving pulse/control pulse generation means 205 for stopping oscillation output of the oscillators 206, 207 in the case of switching the oscillators 206, 207.
