The machine comprises a frame with vertical uprights with a vertically mobile carriage located in the space delimited by the uprights. A cutting device integral with the carriage comprises a set of slicing cutters (11,12) directed radially relative to a vertical cutting axis. A table (18,22) located under the cutting device receives a plant to be cut into portions. The machine also comprises a tubular stalk cutter (17) located around the vertical cutting axis which can rise and fall independently of the slicing cutter movements. The table has an opening (19) for the passage of the stalk cutter and the evacuation of the stalks.
