PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reading a radiographic image by which the radiographic image having no effect of an instantaneous afterglow is obtained, the miniaturization of an apparatus and cost reduction are achieved and read time is shortened and to provide an apparatus for the same. SOLUTION: An image signal detected by a condensing body 4 and a photomultiplier 5 contains both stimulated phosphorescence and the instantaneous afterglow. The signal value of the instantaneous afterglow is calculated from data about the generation of the instantaneous afterglow stored in advance, and an arithmetic circuit 13 carries out correction on this basis for removing the signal equivalent to the instantaneous afterglow.
