PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which is easy in handling, a manufacturing method of the optical element and a mounting method to a holding member. SOLUTION: The optical element 1 has an optical substrate and has a lens part 2, a handling part 4 extended so as to surround an upper part side of an outer periphery of the lens part 2, an edge part 6 positioned on a lower part side of the outer periphery of the lens part 2, and a protrusion part 9 protruded downward, by including the edge part 6 from an intermediate position of the handling part 4. The handling part 4 is substantially rectangular in shape, and has a substantially vertically flat upward flat face 7 on a face forming the lens part 2 on the upper face. A downward flat face 5, substantially parallel to the upward flat face 7 and opposed to the center part of the upward flat face, is formed on the edge of the protrusion part 9. When the lens element 1 is held on the face of the holding member, it is mounted so that the upward flat face 7 or the downward flat face 5 is the contact face of the holding member, so that falling of the lens element 1 can be prevented and a stable holding state can be secured.
