PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple earth retaining method which is adaptable to four faces of side walls of a working pit with a small scale and a short period of time, for example, such as an excavation pit with a scale about the width (0.8-1.5 m)×the length (1-5 m)×the depth (0.5-1.5 m) and about 1-2 days of a work period. SOLUTION: Soldier piles 2 having a vertical groove for locking a sheet pile in two orthogonal directions at four corners of the excavation pit, lateral sheet piles 3, 4 are dropped into a space between the mutual vertical grooves of the adjacent soldier piles 2 and the lateral sheet piles 3, 4 are used in common as an earth pressure support action and a strut in the direction orthogonal to the earth pressure support action.
