The energy absorber consists of a rigid beam (L1) and elastic components that resist deformation in two perpendicular directions, formed by an outer shell (3) and an inner impact absorber (2) made from a polymer material, e.g. from the same or different injection-moulded thermoplastic polymers. The shell can be reinforced by an outer strip (33) or inner ribs (300) that extend into the impact absorber, which has a polygonal cross-section with straight or curved sides (211 - 216).
