PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode-ray tube and its phosphor screen forming method, which are improved in the contrast deterioration due to the reflection of ambient light reflection caused by a metal back layer and mislandings when a phosphor screen is formed without a black light absorbing layer, even though a black stripe type with the black light absorbing layer is put to practical use for a phosphor screen of color cathode-ray tubes. SOLUTION: In this color cathode-ray tube, a color filter layer 22 formed with a relatively close space is coated on the inside surface of a face panel 11, and on the color filter layer 22, a phosphor layer 23 having overlapping portions 25G and 25R, in which the adjacent side ends between phosphors are made to overlap each other is formed, and further a metalback layer 24 is formed on the phosphor layer 23.
