PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the conversion efficiency of a circuit and to downsize the circuit. SOLUTION: There are connected in series: a rectifying element D1 and a bidirectional switch TT3 that is connected thereto and has a reverse withstand voltage; a rectifying element D2 and a bidirectional switch TT4 that are connected in a similar manner as above; a reflux diode D5; and a smoothing capacitor C2, in this order. The AC output of an AC power source AC is inputted in respective connecting points of the rectifying elements D and the bidirectional switches TT, and an AC reactor L1 and a bidirectional switch TT11 connected in parallel thereto is interposed between the connecting point of the rectifying element D1 and the AC power source AC. Furthermore, a DC reactor L2 and a bidirectional switch TT12 connected thereto are interposed between the cathode side of the diode D5 and the smoothing capacitor C2. The bidirectional switches TT3 and TT4 are on/off-operated corresponding to the phase of an AC input, by turning the bidirectional switches TT12 on in a step-up operation and turning the bidirectional switch TT11 on in a step-down operation.
