Each end of the rack (4) is connected by an axial ball joint (7) to a connecting rod (8). An offset (D) exists between the center (C) of the ball joint and the rack longitudinal axis (A). The part (10) of each ball joint to be fixed on an end of the rack has a truncated cavity (14) complementary to a truncated bearing surface (17) of the rack. An axial screw (20) holds the ball joint. The ball joint also has a flat (16) which engages a rack flat (18) in order to fix the angular position of the ball joint relative to the rack.
