The invention concerns a method for producing acrylic acid from propane in the absence of molecular oxygen. Said method is characterized in that it consists in passing a gas mixture free of molecular oxygen and comprising propane, water vapour, as well as, optionally, an inert gas, over a catalyst including molybdenum, vanadium, tellurium, oxygen and at least another element X selected among niobium, tantalum, tungsten, titanium, aluminium, zirconium, chromium, manganese, iron, ruthenium, cobalt, rhodium, nickel, palladium, platinum, antimony, bismuth, boron, indium and cerium, and on a co-catalyst of formula (II): Mo<sb>1</sb>Bi<sb>a'</sb>Fe<sb>b'</sb>Co<sb>c'</sb>Ni<sb>d'</sb>K<sb>e '</sb>Sb<sb>f'</sb>Ti<sb>g'</sb>Si<sb>h'</sb>Ca<sb>i'</sb>Nb<sb>j'</sb >Te<sb>k'</sb>Pb<sb>l'</sb>W<sb>m'</sb>Cu<sb>n'</sb>. The invention also concerns a solid catalytic composition comprising said catalyst and co-catalyst and the use of said composition for producing acrylic acid from propane.
