PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of detected angle of rotation while ensuring sufficient durability so as to prevent the false detection due to the wear of a contact point and avoiding enlarging a device for detecting angle of rotation. SOLUTION: Pulse signals having different phases of A-phase and B-phase are generated by using a first and second pulse patterns 141, 142 disposed on a first region I, and pulse signals having different phases of C-phase and D-phase are generated by using a third and fourth pulse patterns 143, 144 disposed on a second region II. The two regions I, II are formed by dividing a pattern plate 140 into two parts in the circumferential direction. Consequently, four kinds of pulse signals having different phases can be generated without narrowing the circumferential angle of a conductive section and the circumferential angle of a nonconductive section. Accordingly, the accuracy of detected angle of rotation is improved while ensuring sufficient durability so as to prevent the false detection due to the wear of first to fourth brushes 146-149 and avoiding enlarging the device for detecting angle of rotation.
