The power assisted rack and pinion steering for a motor vehicle has a rack (6) and a torsion bar between the pinion and the input shaft (9). The input shaft and torsion bar have an air duct to allow circulation of air between the interior of the steering assembly and the vehicle interior to prevent deformation of the bellows.
